About Us

Our zest for life and abundant energy combined with our experience and academic qualifications         make us an ideal partnership for teaching you English and introducing you to the English way of life.

Our team, John, Jennie, Nick and Clare work together.

We are all well travelled and have experience of many different cultures around the world.

We are nature lovers and enjoy gardening, walking, history and other outdoor activities. We have varied interests which include skiing, golf, travelling, sports, theatre, art, music, singing, cooking and horse riding.... and we all enjoy good healthy food!

She now focuses her energy on her Live 'n' Learn business which she created in 2004.

Jennie was involved in charity and voluntary work for many years in Africa and Sri Lanka and now works as a mentor with a local Youth Project.

Either Jennie and John or Clare and Nick will be your tutors/hosts for the duration of the course although it is usual for us to share some excursions, meals and even some of the teaching.

Our teaching methods are very similar with 'Total English Immersion' being our main objective, giving clients the opportunity to practise their English throughout the day. We combine formal lessons with cultural visits, depending on the course chosen, alongside informal conversation.

We all enjoy entertaining and love meeting people from other cultures. We have all the vital qualities required for successful teaching, particularly a patient and understanding manner, an empathy with clients' needs and an ability to apply different teaching methods in order to enable clients to reach their full potential.

As a team we offer effective language learning combined with quality teaching and a unique insight into language, humour and British culture.

John served in the British Army as an officer in the Royal Engineers for 37 years. During his career he served in many places including Germany, The Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Bosnia, The Falklands, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka as well as the UK.

He uses his invaluable experience, leadership and business knowledge in this joint venture with his wife.

He is involved in voluntary work in the local community, is a Parish Councillor and was appointed as a magistrate {Justice of the Peace -JP} in 2006.

Clare and Nick

Clare's teaching style and work ethic are similar to Jennie's and she is a very confident, competent tutor who loves teaching English. Many of our clients have stayed with Clare and have been delighted with their experience.

Having qualified in 2002 {CELTA}, she taught at Westonbirt School (a local private school in Gloucestershire) for 7 years, tutoring students for the following exams: PET, FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS.

Clare has had a lot of experience teaching English over the past 12 years, both in schools and on a private basis and has worked with a variety of students and business clients. She now accommodates Live and Learn clients and acts as their one-to-one tutor too.

Nick is a Quantity Surveyor and supports Clare fully when she has foreign clients to stay. They live in the oldest house in our village, a short walk from our house.
